The Red Eyes, Telek and Mogu
to perform in Australia Live Concert

For immediate release

‘Melbourne’s very own reggae superstars’ are in Port Moresby to celebrate Australia Week 2012. The Red Eyes is a core group of seven multi-instrumentalist musicians that deliver an explosive live show combining masterful beats and shake the house dub rhythms with heartfelt lyrics that offer a unique spin on the broad reggae genre.

The band is led on stage by enigmatic front man El Witeri, a 2011 APRA Songwriter Award Finalist. Their recent release Red Army received critical acclaim including a nomination for Best Blues & Roots Album at the 2010 Australian Independent Record Label Awards, and Album of the Week on PBS FM and Radio Australia.

The Red Eyes is among a fabulous mix of Australian and Papua New Guinean artists that the Australian High Commission is hosting in Port Moresby to perform in the Australia Live Concert tomorrow night. The concert at the Lamana Gold Club will also include PNG artists George Telek and Richard Mogu.

Telek is a band, a man and a legend. He has long been at the forefront of the PNG music scene. His songs and haunting voice traverse many musical styles. Mogu has been a feature musician in PNG for many years, as a solo artist and session musician excelling in both traditional and contemporary style. Mogu has released his debut solo album Ingawe. Produced by Airi Ingram, Inagwe is an astonishing mix of traditional and contemporary PNG sounds. Mogu has created something distinctive.
All artists are part of the Wantok Musik Foundation. The Wantok Musik Foundation is an Australian-based, not-for-profit organisation whose focus is the recording and support for traditional, contemporary, folk, roots and fusion music played or created by musicians that identify with a particular culture from within the region.
The Australia Live Concert starts at 7pm tomorrow night. Tickets can be purchased from the Australian High Commission or the Lamana Hotel. Tickets will also be sold at The Gold Club gate on the night.
