Applications open for Direct Aid Program grants

Papua New Guineans who want to make a difference in the development of their communities are encouraged to apply for a grant from the Australian High Commission’s Direct Aid Program.

Applications for the Direct Aid Program are open from 1 September to 31 October 2015. Application forms can be downloaded at www.png.highcommission.gov.au/pmsb/cooperation.html or requested by emailing: [email protected].

“The Direct Aid Program supports small-scale, community-driven development and humanitarian projects and activities for Papua New Guineans,” Australia’s Acting High Commissioner to PNG, Ms Bronte Moules, said.

“We would particularly like to support projects that empower women and people with a disability, and that encourage young people to take a greater role in making a difference in economic and social life in PNG.”

Organisations and community groups engaged in development and humanitarian activities on a not-for-profit basis can apply for grants. Most grants are under K50,000 however larger projects can be funded up to K120,000 (or AUD$60,000). Due to the large number of applications received, not all can be funded.

Potential applicants are encouraged to read the guidelines for information about eligibility and obligations which arise from receiving a Direct Aid Program grant. The guidelines and application forms can be downloaded at http://png.highcommission.gov.au/pmsb/cooperation.html.

Applications can be submitted to the Direct Aid Program Coordinator by email: [email protected] or mail: Australian High Commission, Locked Mail Bag 129, Godwit Road, Waigani NCD.
