PM’s XIII game tackles HIV/AIDS and violence against women

Australian High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea (PNG), Ian Kemish AM, is looking forward to the Prime Minister’s XIII rugby league match.

The Australian and Papua New Guinean PM’s XIII teams will play each other on Sunday, 26 September 2010, at the Lloyd Robson Oval in Port Moresby.

“The PM’s XIII rugby league game is a real highlight of the calendar every year. I am really looking forward to seeing our two nations’ finest players in action on the field,” Mr Kemish said.

He said that apart from building on the strong friendship and sporting links between Australia and PNG, the match would also be used to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS and violence against women.

“One of the things the players will be saying is that life, like sport, is about playing by the rules. Violence against women, for example, is against the rules and it is unacceptable,” Mr Kemish said.

The teams are scheduled to campaign against domestic violence and undertake HIV/AIDS awareness activities on Saturday, 25 September 2010.

Mr Kemish will host a reception for both teams on Friday, 24 September 2010.
