Pawarim Komuniti is part of Australia’s commitment under the PNG Electrification Partnership to help PNG meet the target of connecting 70 per cent of the country to electricity by 2030.
The Program aims to provide rural households, community facilities like schools and health centres, and businesses with reliable and affordable access to clean energy services.
This call for proposals is specifically targeting underserved or unserved communities. The Program will provide grants to quality projects that support local off-grid energy solutions such as solar home systems, larger solar PV installations, micro-hydro plants and solar pumps. This may include power to meet household consumer needs, as well as power for productive uses and commercial activities, focusing on agriculture and essential services.
It is expected that selected organisations will receive grant funding in the amount of between PGK 250,000 and PGK 3,000,000, depending on project scale and target results.
Pawarim Komuniti encourages the engagement and involvement of provincial authorities, districts and community groups and associations. There will also be a strong focus on gender equity and social inclusion of vulnerable groups. This will foster greater acceptance, ownership and long-term sustainability for the projects.
