Carole Cholai, the winner of the Australian Government supported 2025 Lily Magazine Homemade Competition's Wearable category, symbolises resilience and transformation.
She was also the runner-up for the overall winner announced on October 24, 2025.
Last year, Carole bravely faced a daunting cancer battle. Instead of being defeated, she transformed her personal journey into an inspiring mission. Struggling with discomfort after surgery, she designed innovative, comfortable clothing for mastectomy patients – a one-sided bra and tie-on underwear. This creative solution was born directly from her resilient approach to illness.
Her brand, Sister Love, is more than just a clothing brand; it's a supportive community for breast cancer survivors, sharing love, healing and practical solutions.
The Lily Magazine Homemade Competition, with an Australian Government supported Business Skills Training Program, is helping Papua New Guinean entrepreneurs like Carole turn their innovative ideas into thriving businesses.
Carole and 14 other finalists have received comprehensive business development training, and an 8-week tailored business mentoring program, equipping them with the practical knowledge to grow their ventures.
Carole shared that after training, Sista Luv Gifts was officially registered, and will soon launch its website and online shop. The store offers branded apparel like T-shirts, bras, pillows, beannies for chemotherapy patients, and herbal oils for hair and massage, specifically for survivors and patients.
“I found the training very beneficial, I’ve gained valuable insights into business formalities, product development, promotion, and costing, it also helped me to formalise and strategize the launch of the Pink Wellness space to support breast cancer warriors both online and in-person,” she said.
"I hope that through this competition we can raise awareness of those going through breast cancer. We have a special need for clothing that's suitable for us to wear.”
Carole's impact is already spreading, as she connects with women across PNG who are facing similar challenges.
Her journey is a powerful testament to positive living and the transformative power of creativity in the face of immense adversity.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, so Carole’s story is a timely and powerful reminder that even in the face of life's toughest challenges, with a dash of creativity, hope can transform lives.
