Official Launch of the Morehead Development Hub A Commitment to Empowering Western Province, 23 June 2026

Communities in Morehead Local-level Government (LLG), South Fly District will now benefit from improved access to services following the official launch of the Morehead Development Hub. The facility, launched on 18 June 2026, will enhance agricultural support, strengthen food security, and promote social and economic development in one of Western Province’s most remote areas. It will offer agricultural training and pilot climate-smart farming practices tailored to local conditions.

The Hub was officially launched by Western Province Governor, Taboi Awi Yoto, South Fly MP, Hon. Sekie Agisa, and Australian High Commission's Acting Minister-Counsellor for Subnational, Governance and Human Capital, Craig Gillies.

The new facility represents a key milestone in the ongoing partnership between Papua New Guinea and Australia, underscoring a shared commitment to sustainable development in Western Province.

Farmer Paul Baiama from Garaita village, said he was excited to learn about the hub's services. "As people living in this remote area, we must travel to access government services. I am looking forward to participating in agriculture training here and accessing agriculture advice from staff," he said.

"This Hub will serve as a resource for the community, providing agricultural training courses that equip local farmers with the skills and knowledge to boost community resilience, enhance livelihoods, foster socio-economic growth," he said.

The Western Provincial Administration will work closely with Australia to ensure that the hub's activities align with the needs of local communities.
