The Australian High Commission is pleased to welcome Australia’s Ambassador for Global Health, Chris Cannan, to Papua New Guinea.
Ambassador Cannan – who also oversees the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s international education programs – will undertake his first visit to PNG in this role from 15–20 March. His visit underscores the deep and longstanding cooperation between Australia and Papua New Guinea in the areas of health and education.
During his visit, Ambassador Cannan will tour Port Moresby General Hospital to see firsthand how Australia’s support is strengthening access to essential screening and diagnostic services for mothers, infants, and families.
He will also meet with Papua New Guinean alumni who have benefited from Australian-funded study opportunities and who are now contributing to meaningful progress across PNG’s public sector.
The Ambassador will travel to several Australian-supported health facilities and engage with frontline health workers who deliver vital services in communities across the country.
“I’m very much looking forward to visiting Papua New Guinea as Ambassador for Global Health. Australia and Papua New Guinea are the closest of neighbours, partners and friends. The celebration of PNG’s 50th anniversary of independence reaffirmed the strength of our relationship, including our growing ties in education and health.”
Australia remains committed to working with Papua New Guinea to support healthier, safer, and more resilient communities, and to deepen the partnership between our two countries.
