Emerging and established leaders from Papua New Guinea's State-Owned Enterprise (SOE) sector gathered today at the Australian High Commission in Port Moresby for a reception as part of the Directorship and Inclusive Leadership Program.
The event recognised participants and mentors selected to take part in the program and provided an opportunity to build professional networks before travelling to Australia later this month to complete a 5-day intensive Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) course.
The Directorship and Inclusive Leadership Program is a joint initiative between Kumul Consolidated Holdings (KCH) and the Australian Government. It combines internationally recognised governance training with a six-month mentoring program, designed to strengthen leadership, governance, and organisational performance across Papua New Guinea's SOE sector.
This pilot program will support greater participation of women in leadership and governance, and aims to strengthen board capability, governance and inclusive leadership.
Acting Australian High Commissioner, Adrian Lochrin, highlighted the importance of investing in leadership and governance capability as part of the enduring partnership between Papua New Guinea and Australia.
"Strong leadership and effective governance are essential to building resilient institutions and delivering positive outcomes for communities. Through initiatives such as the Directorship and Inclusive Leadership Program, Australia is proud to support the development of leaders who will contribute to Papua New Guinea's continued growth and prosperity." Mr Lochrin said.
KCH Managing Director Professor David Kavanamur said the program would help strengthen accountability, improve decision-making, and build a pipeline of capable and ethical leaders for PNG's future.

Participants will undertake the internationally recognised course which is often a pre-requisite for board membership in Australia. The course covers topics such as governance, strategy, director responsibilities, financial oversight and risk management, alongside tailored leadership coaching and practical guidance.
The program reflects the long-standing Australia-Papua New Guinea partnership and a shared commitment to strengthening institutions, supporting professional development and investing in leadership diversity.
