About the Law and Justice Section
Law and Justice is a priority sector for Australia's aid program in PNG, as agreed under the PNG-Australia Partnership for Development. There are a number of initiatives managed by the Australian High Commission that seek to support the Government of PNG to meet their goal of PNG as a ‘just, safe, security society for all’. Our program is delivered in close partnership with a wide range of PNG Government law and justice agencies as well as with Australian Government partners, specifically the Australian Federal Police and the Attorney Generals Department.

About the role
The Program Manager will manage and coordinate the implementation of elements of the Law and Justice Program in PNG.

The key responsibilities for this position are:

  • Oversee contract management and financial support for an element of the law and justice program – focus area to be agreed;
  • Ensure compliance with contractor performance and finance operational quality-related requirements;
  • Contribute to design of new and/or review and monitoring of current DFAT Law and Justice Program investment in PNG as required;
  • Assist in the development, review and interpretation of policies as required;
  • Negotiate with appointed implementers (e.g. Managing Contractors, partner government and other partner organisations) on program projects and initiatives;
  • Prepare Terms of Reference, minutes, briefs, submissions, correspondences and speeches for senior management;
  • Monitor donor policies, programs and develop linkages with DFAT activities;
  • Build and maintain good working relationships in the best interest of DFAT with PNG counterparts and other key stakeholders;
  • Represent DFAT in meetings; and
  • Provide administrative and logistic support to the program and the team as required.
