Australia joins assessment mission to Tari
The PNG Government has requested Australian assistance to join an assessment mission to the landslide affected area in Tari.
Two Australian High Commission staff will join the PNG National Disaster Centre assessment mission today, one AusAID officer and one Australian Defence Force civil engineer.
The assessment team is scheduled to arrive at approximately 1500hrs today (Wednesday 25 January).
The outcome of this assessment will determine the need for further assistance from Australia.
Australian High Commissioner Ian Kemish said, “Our thoughts are very much with the people affected. “The Australian Government stands ready to assist should further assistance be required.”
