Australia Week FLiCKERFEST Short Film Festival
FLiCKERFEST, Australia’s leading and most respected short film festival, will come to Papua New Guinea for the third time as part of Australia Week.
A free screening of eight short films will be held at the University of Papua New Guinea from 7pm on Tuesday 27 May.
Celebrating its 23rd year, Flickerfest remains a platform for showcasing the most entertaining and innovative short film making from around the world.
“The Australian High Commission is very proud to bring a selection of the 2014 short films entries to PNG,” Australia’s High Commissioner to PNG, Ms Deborah Stokes, said.
“While entertaining, some of the films also touch on Australian cultural issues and provide an element of commentary about contemporary Australian culture.
“Flickerfest is a shining example of providing opportunity to up and coming screen writers and filmmakers and I encourage talented young film students in PNG to enter Flickerfest next year.”
Filmmakers enter works into the International, Australian and Documentary categories as well as GreenFlicks for films with an environmental focus or theme.
Some of the films showing in PNG this year include We Keep on Dancing, a short comedy-drama about human connection expressed through dance; No Budget starring Hugo Weaving and David Wenham and Vote Yes about Australia’s referendum on Aboriginal rights.
Flickerfest began as a small local festival at a Sydney high school in 1991. Over the last 23 years it has grown to become Australia’s only Academy® accredited & BAFTA recognised competitive International Short Film Festival with entries coming from filmmakers across the globe.
Flickerfest is considered in international circles as the leading Australian competitive short film festival and increasingly filmmakers view it as one of the main festivals on the world circuit.
