Australia Week Essay Competition
Jubilee Catholic Secondary School student James Lunge was today announced the winner of the Australia Week essay competition.
James’s essay, ‘The ABC of a Youth’s Role in the Socio-economic development of PNG’, examined how PNG youth could make a difference through ‘active citizenship’, ‘being the change’ and ‘choosing to seek consensus’.
Almost 60 students from the National Capital and Central Districts entered the competition, which was sponsored by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research as a part of Australia Week.
The topic of the competition was: ‘What role can young people play in the economic development of Papua New Guinea? How can the choices you make about your life make a difference in promoting economic and social development?’
The eighth annual Australia Week, from 24-30 May, focuses on engaging with young Papua New Guineans by promoting discussion, new ideas, creative partnerships and different ways of connecting youth with Australia.
