About the Australian High Commission in Port Moresby

About the role
The Human Resources (HR) Services and Performance Management Supervisor will, with limited direction, provide specific HR advice to staff, liaise with stakeholders and manage the HR team’s recruitment, induction and performance management responsibilities.
The key responsibilities for this position are:
- Lead and supervise the daily operations of the HR Services and Performance Management function of the Australian High Commission (AHC), including setting work priorities
- Coordinate and supervise recruitment and selection processes, including employment contracts, work permits and background checks
- Manage the medical insurance process for Locally Engaged Staff (LES) at the AHC, ensuring timely submission to management for insurance renewals, premium payments and refunds
- Ensure the effective and efficient operation of the Performance Management System
- Coordinate training programs for Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) LES and keep up to date training records
- Prepare and facilitate employment contracts for LES ensuring relevant areas are advised on system access requirements and security identification passes
- Respond to queries on a range of HR issues as required
- Provide advice to LES and management on terms and conditions of employment and other entitlements as well as local labour law
- Participate in the review of LES terms and conditions of service
- Ensure records relating to human resources are kept in an orderly manner and in accordance with DFAT practice
- Liaise with external stakeholders, including government ministries, private organisations and other embassies/high commissions
- Provide counseling to staff as required
- Assist management and LES executives as required
Required Skills and Qualifications
- At least five (5) years experience in Human Resources functions including recruitment, induction and performance management
- Supervisory experience and proven organisation skills
- Very strong interpersonal skills including staff management and a proven ability to prioritise workloads to meet strict deadlines
- Proven ability to make sound judgements and a demonstrated ability in complex problem solving
- Ability to proactively identify areas for improvement
- Willingness to assist other team member as required
- High degree of proficiency in Microsoft applications
- Appropriate tertiary qualifications
Eligibility/Other Requirements
The successful candidate is required to obtain a satisfactory police check, medical check and maybe required to travel on occasions. A current driver’s license is required to drive a work vehicle.
