Applications open for Direct Aid Program grants
Papua New Guineans who want to make a difference in the development of their communities are encouraged to apply for a grant from the Australian Government’s Direct Aid Program.
“The Direct Aid Program supports small-scale, community-driven development and humanitarian projects and activities for Papua New Guineans,” Australia’s High Commissioner to PNG, Ms Deborah Stokes, said.
“I encourage projects that empower women and people with a disability, and encourage young people to take a greater role in economic and social life in PNG.”
Individuals, organisations and community groups engaged in development and humanitarian activities on a not-for-profit basis can apply.
Successful projects in previous years have included:
- Sewing machines for a women’s group in Manus enabling them to conduct sewing classes and create clothes and handicrafts for sale
- Library shelves and books for an elementary school in Wabag, Enga to boost early childhood learning
- Water tanks for primary school students in remote Wapenamanda to provide safe drinking water for school children
Potential applicants are encouraged to read the guidelines for information about eligibility and obligations from receiving a Direct Aid Program grant. The guidelines and application forms can be downloaded at www.dfat.gov.au/direct_aid_program
Applications can be submitted to the Direct Aid Program Coordinator by email: [email protected] or mail: Australian High Commission, Locked Mail Bag 129, Godwit Road, Waigani NCD.
