Australia supporting PNG’s law and justice sector manager
Twenty one mid-level managers from law and justice sector agencies will begin a five month Diploma of Government course at IEA TAFE Ela Beach today. The course is provided through the Papua New Guinea – Australia Law and Justice Partnership – Transition Program which builds the capacity of PNG law and justice agencies to deliver services.
Sponsored by the Australian Government aid program, the course will help these 10 women and 11 men to build their management skills and become stronger leaders of their work units, helping to build the capacity of the Papua New Guinea public service.
The course participants have been selected from across the law and justice sector including the Department of Justice and Attorney General, the Office of Public Prosecutor, Correctional Service, Magisterial Services, National Judicial Staff Services, Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary and the Ombudsman Commission.
The course will be delivered through four, week-long workshops, supported by ongoing workplace coaching and guest speakers talking about real life work place experiences. Focus areas include ethics and diversity, communication and workplace safety, performance management and leadership. Following assessment, successful participants will graduate in December.
During the first workshop this week, the participants will learn about promoting ethical standards, avoiding conflict of interest, and workplace diversity.
