About the role
Under close direction, the War Graves Gardener will maintain a safe and healthy garden environment for the war cemetery in Lae, Morobe Province, operated by the Office of Australian War Graves (OAWG) in Papua New Guinea.
The key responsibilities for this position are:
- Perform garden and grounds maintenance (mowing, hedging, trimming) on an ongoing basis to ensure clean, safe and healthy garden environment according to an agreed task schedule
- Ensure a safe and healthy working environment, including the correct use of safety equipment and chemicals, and the completion of a safety check before any major machine tasks are performed
- Carry out general maintenance on property (head stones, memorials, plaques, etc.)
- Operate plant, vehicle and mowing equipment
- Ensure that tools and machinery are regularly serviced and are in a safe working order
- Report faulty equipment and machines for repair as necessary
- Maintain and carry out repairs to the irrigation system
- Maintain the turf to a high standard
- Perform horticultural tasks in the nursery
- Perform cleaning duties of the work areas and related facilities
