About the role
Under close direction, the War Graves Gardener will maintain a safe and healthy garden environment for the war cemetery, operated by the Office of Australian War Graves (OAWG) in Papua New Guinea.

The key responsibilities for this position are:

  • Perform garden and grounds maintenance (mowing, hedging, trimming) on an ongoing basis to ensure clean, safe and healthy garden environment according to an agreed task schedule
  • Ensure a safe and healthy working environment, including the correct use of safety equipment and chemicals, and the completion of a safety check before any major machine tasks are performed
  • Carry out general maintenance on property (head stones, memorials, plaques, etc)
  • Operate plant, vehicle and mowing equipment
  • Ensure that tools and machinery are regularly serviced and are in a safe working order
  • Report faulty equipment and machines for repair as necessary
  • Maintain and carry out repairs to the irrigation system
  • Maintain the turf to a high standard
  • Perform horticultural tasks in the nursery
  • Perform cleaning duties of the work areas and related facilities.
