About the role
Under close direction, the War Graves Gardener will maintain a safe and healthy garden environment for the war cemetery, operated by the Office of Australian War Graves (OAWG) in Papua New Guinea.
The key responsibilities for this position are:
- Perform garden and grounds maintenance (mowing, hedging, trimming) on an ongoing basis to ensure clean, safe and healthy garden environment according to an agreed task schedule
- Ensure a safe and healthy working environment, including the correct use of safety equipment and chemicals, and the completion of a safety check before any major machine tasks are performed
- Carry out general maintenance on property (head stones, memorials, plaques, etc)
- Operate plant, vehicle and mowing equipment
- Ensure that tools and machinery are regularly serviced and are in a safe working order
- Report faulty equipment and machines for repair as necessary
- Maintain and carry out repairs to the irrigation system
- Maintain the turf to a high standard
- Perform horticultural tasks in the nursery
- Perform cleaning duties of the work areas and related facilities.
