Training Manus youth in radio production
The National Broadcasting Corporation’s Radio Manus will train more youth to be journalists and radio broadcasters following the donation of recording and editing equipment by Australia to the station.
The Australian High Commission’s Minister Counsellor, Development Cooperation, James Hall handed over the laptop computers, portable recording devices and headphones to station Director, Ms Leonnie Ramram.
“I congratulate Radio Manus on this initiative to boost the capacity and quality of its programming and attract young Papua New Guineans to a career in radio,” Mr Hall said.
“Radio Manus is a trusted and relied upon source of information. This training program will broaden the coverage of issues that matter to the people of Manus and provide more youth with a start in a career in journalism.”
Radio Manus will use the donated equipment to provide a six month training program in radio production techniques and live presentation.
Manus Provincial Radio Station Director, Leonnie Ramram said: “This project will develop a better appreciation of radio journalism among the youth of Manus Province. By broadening the skills base of potential radio broadcasters, the project will contribute to the overall quality of information we provide and improve succession planning for the future.”
