Workshops build business skills in Manus
The Australian Government is funding workshops in Manus to support the development of business skills. The workshops are part of Australia’s additional aid to Manus Province valued at approximately AU$37 million.
Launched this week by Australia and the Manus Provincial Government, the workshops will assist around 200 Manusians interested in starting or developing a small business. The workshops are the second series held in Manus since the success of the first workshops in July 2014.
The workshops will provide mentoring and training in topics such as how to prepare a business plan, investigate business opportunities, set goals, manage finances, apply for loans, procure goods and services, and market a business.
Manus Province Governor, the Honourable Charlie Benjamin, said: “The workshops are an investment opportunity for Manusians and specific training in business management will ensure businesses are sustainable and prosperous.”
The first workshop in Lorengau from 10-11 February hosted around 70 participants from both urban and rural locations.
Training is being provided through Queensland TAFE and will continue in one week sessions over the next four months.
