Key public servants from Papua New Guinea with responsibilities for APEC 2018 gathered in Australia’s Old Parliament House on July 27, 2017 to network with Australian counterparts and strengthen inter-governmental ties.
The 53 leading government officials are studying a Graduate Certificate in International Relations at University of Queensland or a Graduate Certificate of International Trade at University of Adelaide through the Australia Awards PNG program.
Last night’s event was part of a week-long series of exercises for the group which included an inter-departmental committee meeting with Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade officials on Thursday morning and a high-level APEC simulation exercise with key stakeholders today.
Ambassador Ivan Pomaleu, PNG's Ambassador to APEC said: “The exercises this group have been involved in all week are a key part of their preparations for next year and will inform and strengthen their practices in preparation for this important event. The opportunity to meet with representatives from APEC missions highlights the member cooperation that is at the heart of APEC.”
“I wish all 53 of them success in completing their studies in Australia and a hasty return to their positions back home where their experiences will add resilience to the APEC program.”
