Ginigoada skills training graduates now ready for jobs

Recent graduates of the Ginigoada Foundation’s Mobile and Skills Training Program have been provided opportunities to develop job-readiness skills and help to find employment.

Jack Steven and Margaret Maino were among 1,000 graduates who attained certificates in various life skills’ courses at a ceremony in Port Moresby on 22 February.

Jack, who completed a basic accounting course, has been with the National Identification Office for the past eight months, managing the registration of identification cards, birth certificates and new citizens.

“Thank you to Ginigoada and its partners for helping young Papua New Guineans like me to also be in a position to serve other Papua New Guineans and our country,” Jack said.

Jack Steven proudly displays his certificate in basic accounting.

Fellow graduate Margaret was assisted by Ginigoada to find employment earlier this year as an administration assistant at the Ilimo Dairy Farm at 14 mile outside Port Moresby.

She handles administration, logistics and inventories and is proud to be able to financially provide for her husband and four children.

“By helping me secure direct employment, Ginigoada gave me hope,” she said.

“After applying to countless companies since 2012, I had lost hope. I haven’t just been given a job, but also a new lease on life.”

Through Ginigoada, Margaret Maino has secured employment as an administration assistant at the Ilimo Dairy Farm outside Port Moresby.

The graduates undertook a one-month skills course at a Ginigoada vocational training centre in 2018 in courses ranging from air-conditioning and refrigeration, tourism and hospitality, housekeeping, business management, computing, customer service, commercial cooking, welding, mechanical and electrical trades.

Most of the participants are from disadvantaged communities in Port Moresby.

Australian High Commission representative Patricia Manley attended the graduation and told graduates: “Australia is investing in Papua New Guinea to build a stronger, more diversified economy and a healthy and productive workforce. Australia is proud to support young, emerging Papua New Guinean leaders at all levels.”

Australia’s support through the Papua New Guinea-Australia Partnership to Ginigoada, facilitates the Mobile and Skills Training Program in Port Moresby, Lae and Central Province.
