AUSTRALIAN BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION TRADE MISSION VISITS PORT MORESBY AND LAE
The Australian Trade Commission’s 2008 Building and Construction Trade Mission is visiting Port Moresby and Lae from 16-21 November 2008.
“Seven leading players from Australia’s building and construction sector make up the Mission, and they are looking forward to meeting with Papua New Guinean businesses and exploring potential trade opportunities,” said Mr John Brand, Austrade’s Senior Trade Commissioner based in Port Moresby.
The delegates represent a wide range of building and construction products, including weatherboard cladding, security fencing, waste collection, industrial covers and grates, and bathroom fittings as well as architectural and building services.
Australian building materials exported to PNG were valued at $AUD121.0 million in 2007-08, an increase of 250 per cent over the past five years.
“The significant building and construction activity occurring in PNG, especially in Port Moresby and Lae, provides the opportunity for Australia and PNG to further strengthen their bilateral trade in this sector,” said Mr Brand.
The first of two planned trade nights was held in Port Moresby at the Holiday Inn Hotel on Monday 17 November. The night was a huge success with more than 50 representatives from the PNG building industry in attendance.
The Lae Building and Construction Trade Mission night will be held at the Lae International Hotel on Wednesday 19 November.
