PNG journalist in Australia on internship program
The Australian Government is funding participation by Papua New Guinean journalist, Nancy Gah, in the Douglas Gabb Australia Pacific Journalism Internship Program.
Ms Gah who is the Journalist-In-Charge of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) West New Britain, is one of two participants who were selected from a high quality of nominations to take part in the program.
The annual program is offered jointly by Radio Australia and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. It was established in September 2007 in memory of the late Douglas Gabb, a Radio Australia journalist who was well known to audiences in the Pacific region.
Ms Gah is working from the Australian Broadcasting Commission (ABC) studios in Melbourne but will also be travelling to Canberra for appointments, and Brisbane where she will attend the 2010 UNESCO World Press Freedom Conference from 1-3 May.
Ms Gah of West New Britain and Bougainvillean parentage has worked for NBC West New Britain for 8 years and has demonstrated excellent knowledge, skills, and leadership in her profession and position.
She thanks the ABC and the Australian Government for recognising her work and potential, and commended them for selecting a participant from outside of Port Moresby where most of the media is located.
The Douglas Gabb Australia Pacific Journalism Interns participate in a two week individual program between March and June. Ms Gah’s program runs from 16 April 2010 to 5 May 2010. The internship is open to all Pacific countries which broadcast ABC programs.
