AUSTRALIAN FOOD AND BEVERAGE SHOWCASE OPENS

A showcase of high quality Australian food and beverage products, from confectionary to noodles, opened at the Australia High Commission today.

Key buyers from the food and beverage sectors in PNG have been invited to view the Australia on Display promotional event, which runs until Friday.

The showcase, which has been organised by the Australian Trade Commission, Austrade, aims to create awareness and interest among buyers in PNG.

Some of the products include chilli paste from The Chilli Factory, muesli bars from Springhill Boutique Slice, Flying Swan nougat and OzKleen cleaning agents.

Australia’s High Commissioner to PNG, His Excellency Mr Chris Moraitis, said: “This showcase brings new and innovative retail products to PNG buyers, providing them with a cost effective way of identifying new Australian trading partners.

“PNG consumers also benefit by having a wider choice and the latest retail products on their local supermarket shelves.

“The showcase is one of a number of trade promotion activities undertaken by Austrade that continues to build on the strong Australia - PNG trade relationship.”

Mr Moraitis added: “Companies in PNG look to Australia as a source of quality products, and with good reason.

“PNG businesses know that Australia offers high quality and competitively priced products that meet growing consumer demand.”

Geoff Shearer, the general manager of Garamut Enterprises, the parent company of Boroko Foodworld supermarket in Port Moresby, visited the showcase this morning.

He said: “These Austrade trade fairs give us access to stocks that we would not otherwise have, which helps us expand our range for the benefit of our customers.”
